Red Hawks Drop Pair of Games

CLERMONT, Fla. - Ripon's softball team dropped a pair of games Monday on the second day of action on their Spring Trip. They lost their first game 9-3 to Amherst, before losing to McDaniel by a score of 6-3.

The Red Hawks struck first in the day's first game, scoring three runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning. Emily Karvala started the scoring with an RBI single down the right field line, scoring Riley Brieder from third base. Micaela Encarnacion and Anna Bauer would also drive in one run apiece with a double and single, respectively.

Amherst would cut that lead to one with a two-spot in the top of the fourth, before breaking the game open with five runs in the fifth, keyed by a grand slam over the left field fence. They would add two more runs in the sixth to cap the scoring.

Ripon finished the game with seven hits, led by Claire Luebke's 2-for-4 performance at the plate.

In the day's second game, Ripon fell behind early, as McDaniel scored once in the bottom of the first and three more in the second. They would take a 6-0 lead with two more runs in the fourth, before Ripon scored all three of their runs in the fifth. Lexzie Hassemer drove in a pair of runs with a double to left center, while Abby Gilbertson drove in the other with a double to right.

Ripon finished the game with six hits, with Hassemer leading the way with a 2-for-3 performance.

The Red Hawks will be in action again on Tuesday, as they'll play Maryville College and Hamline at 10:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. ET, respectively at Sleepy Hollow Field in Clermont, Fla.
