LEESBURG, Fla. - Ripon's softball team played well Thursday, but it wasn't enough as they lost to Meredith College 4-1 and to Minnesota-Morris by a score of 5-2.
In the day's first game, Meredith struck first with three runs in the bottom of the first. Ripon would get one of those runs back in the second on an RBI double off the bat of
Lexzie Hassemer. That would be the Red Hawks' only run as Meredith capped the scoring with an RBI single in the third.
Ripon finished with four hits, coming from Hassemer,
Micaela Encarnacion,
Andrea Mihaljevich, and
Riley Breider.
Claire Luebke allowed four runs on nine hits with two strikeouts in six innings of work.
In the second game of the day, UM-Morris struck first with two runs in the top of the first. Ripon would cut that lead in half in the second when
Mikaela Lawrence crushed her first career home run over the right centerfield fence. UM-Morris took a 4-1 lead in the fifth, before Ripon scored on a sac fly from
Micaela Encarnacion in the bottom of that frame. Morris would add an insurance run in the seventh.
The Red Hawks finished with five hits, led by Lawrence's 2-for-3 performance at the plate.
Savanna Trittelwitz allowed three earned runs, while striking out four i seven innings.
Ripon will wrap up their spring trip Friday with a pair of games. They will battle North Park at 2:15 p.m. ET, before facing University of New England at 4:30 p.m. ET. Both games will be played at Hancock Park in Clermont, Fla.
