Ripon Falls To Lawrence As Teams Combine For 28 Runs

RIPON, Wis. - Ripon and Lawrence combined for 28 runs on 26 hits Tuesday afternoon, as the Vikings escaped with a 15-13 victory. Both teams finished the contest with 13 hits, as they combined for 10 extra-base hits, including six home runs by Lawrence.

Jacob Charon started the scoring for the Vikings (13-6, 8-1 MWC) with a solo shot over the left field fence in the top of the fourth. Ripon (9-9, 5-4 MWC) would then take their first lead of the contest in the fifth when Cam Stampfl scored on a Lawrence error after Nick Terrell tied the score with an RBI single to left. Terrell would later score on a wild pitch to give the Red Hawks a 3-1 advantage.

That lead was short-lived, as Jeffery Cambra hit a two-run homer in the top of the sixth to tie the score. Ripon was able to get some breathing room in the bottom of that inning, scoring five runs on three hits, including RBI doubles by Stampfl and Brock Warren, a two-run single by Terrell, and a sac fly off the bat of Samuel Ott. Lawrence did one better in the following inning, scoring six runs on five hits, including home runs by Zach Leslie and Edan Perez to take a 9-8 lead.

Cambra added an RBI single in the eighth, before Charon crushed a grand slam to give Lawrence a 14-8 advantage. Ripon matched that energy with five runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth, pulling within one run on a two-run single by Ott. Lawrence hit another homer in the top of the ninth to take a two-run lead, which is all they would need to close out the game, retiring the Red Hawks in order in the bottom of the frame.

The first three batters in Ripon's lineup, Cormac Madigan, Stampfl, and Terrell combined to go 9-for-13 with seven runs scored and three RBI, while Ott led the team with three RBI from the cleanup spot. Nick Tenny also got into the action with two runs scored and a pair of RBI.

The top four batters in Lawrence's lineup went 9-for-17 with 11 runs scored and 12 RBI, led by Charon's 2-for-3 performance with five RBI from the cleanup spot in the order.

Ripon will try to rebound on Thursday when they'll travel to Beloit College for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. LiveStats will be available for those games at https://beloitcollegeathletics.com/sidearmstats/baseball/summary.
