Ripon Splits With Beloit

RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's baseball team recorded a convincing 15-4 win in game two of Thursday's doubleheader at Beloit to earn a doubleheader split with the Buccaneers. Beloit won the first game 10-8 in 10 innings after a walk-off home run gave them the game one victory.

Despite the final score, it was the Red Hawks who led early in game number one, taking a first-inning lead on a three-run home run to center field by Samuel Ott. Nick Terrell drove in two more runs with a double to left in the top of the second, putting Ripon up by five, before a three-run homer by Beloit cut that lead to two. The Buccaneers singled in another run in the fourth, before tying the score at five with a sac fly in the seventh.

Beloit didn't take their first lead of the contest until the eighth when an RBI triple put them up 6-5 after eight innings. Ripon's bats then warmed up again in the ninth, as Terrell, Ott, and Nick Tenny each drove in a run to take an 8-6 lead in the top of the ninth. The Red Hawks couldn't close things out however, as a two-run single down the left field line sent the game to extra innings, which saw the Buccaneers win the game with a two-run shot in the bottom of the 10th.

Ripon saw four players record a multi-hit game, as Ott, Tenny, Cormac Madigan, and Cam Stampfl each recorded a pair of base knocks. Ott finished the game with four RBI, while Terrell drove in three. Madigan led the team with three runs scored from the leadoff spot. Freshman Michell Lukasik struck out six in six innings of work, as he was saddled with the no-decision.

In the second game of the day, Ripon again jumped on the board first with five runs in the opening inning, which saw Terrell, Tenny, and Andrew DeMatteo all record an RBI, while Brady Price drove in two with a single up the middle. The Red Hawks added two more runs in the second on a run-scoring single by Ott and an RBI groundout by Tenny, before adding four more runs in the third to take an 11-0 lead. Beloit would get on the board with a run in the third, and three more in the fourth, before Ripon closed the game out with two runs in both the eighth and ninth innings.

Ripon will try to win the three-game season series against Beloit with a single game on Saturday at Francis Field in Ripon. That contest will begin at Noon, and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
