GRINNELL, Iowa - Ripon's softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Grinnell College Sunday afternoon, falling 11-3 in six innings in game one, before narrowly losing 6-5 in nine innings during the nightcap. The Red Hawks recorded 21 hits in the two games combined, with nine going for extra bases.
Despite the game one loss, it was Ripon who got on the board first, scoring on an RBI double by
Anna Bauer in the top of the first. Grinnell would score the game's next six runs, before
Abby Gilbertson and
Brennah Bronk each drove in a run with a sac fly in the third and fourth inning, respectively. Grinnell would score the final five runs of the contest, including a pair of two-run home runs, to put the game out of reach.
The Red Hawks recorded seven hits in the game from seven different players. Bronk scored a team-high two runs in the contest. Savanna Trittlewitz suffered the loss, despite striking out five batters.
It was Grinnell who scored first in the second game, building a 4-0 lead with two runs in both the first ad second inning. Ripon then got on the board in the third, scoring once on a double to left by Bronk, before scoring twice more on a two-run homer by
Mikaela Lawrence, who extended her current hitting streak to nine games.
The Red Hawks would tie the score i the fourth on a sac fly by Bronk, which was followed by a RBI double off the bat of Bauer to take a 5-4 lead. Grinnell the tied the score in the bottom of that inning with a sac fly of their own. After the next three innings were scoreless for each team, the game went to extra innings, with the result finally decided in the ninth when Grinnell scored on a wild pitch with no outs.
Ripon finished the game with 14 hits, with three apiece coming from Bauer and Lawrence, who combined for four extra base hits. Gilbertson,
Micaela Encarnacion, and
Maddie Hablewitz each finished with two hits. Bronk pitched the entire game, allowing just three earned runs, while striking out three batters.
