Walk-Off Home Run Clinches Split With Beloit

RIPON, Wis. - Junior Abby Gilbertson capped off her torrid hitting spree this week with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Ripon a 7-6 game two victory, which earned a split with Beloit. She finished the week batting .750 (15-for-20) with six doubles and three home runs, including the game-winner. Ripon lost the first game of the day 13-8.

In that first game, Beloit got out to an early 4-0 lead, before Ripon scored three rus in the third, scoring twice on an Anna Bauer double, ad once on a Gilbertson single. After Beloit scored two runs in the fourth, Ripon took their first lead of the day in the bottom of that inning on a pair of two-run doubles by Bauer ad Gilbertson.

Beloit would tie things up with an RBI single in the sixth, which was followed by a two-run double to give the Buccaneers the lead. They would add four more runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Gilbertson finished the game with three hits and three RBI, while Bauer went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Maddie Hablewitz also finished with a pair of hits.

Game two saw Beloit strike first once more, scoring once in the fourth and three more times in the fifth before Ripon got on the board with another two-run double by Bauer in the bottom of that inning.

Beloit then added two runs in the sixth, but Ripon rallied with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at six. Claire Luebke drove in two runs with a double to left center in that frame, while Brennah Bronk and Bauer also each drove in a run. After holding Beloit scoreless in the seventh, Gilbertson saved her best for last, hitting a towering fly ball over the right field fence to lead off the bottom of the seventh and end the game with her fifth career home run and fourth of the season.

Hablewitz led the Red Hawks with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate, including a pair of doubles. Bronk, Bauer, and Gilbertson each finished with two hits. Luebke earned the win, allowing three earned runs on seven hits, while striking out two in seven innings of work.

Ripon will finish their 2022 season Monday afternoon with a home doubleheader against Northland College at 1:30 p.m. Those games can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
