RIPON, Wis. - Preparing for next weekend's Midwest Conference Tournament, Ripon's baseball team lost their regular season finale Sunday afternoon, falling to Carthage by a score of 19-1 in seven innings. The Red Hawks were limited to three hits, while Carthage recorded 14 base knocks.
Carthage scored five runs in the top of the second and built an 8-0 lead before Ripon scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth when
Samuel Ott scored on a fielding error. The big blow came the following inning when Carthage capped the scoring with 11 runs on seven hits in the top of the fifth.
Ripon's three hits came from
Cormac Madigan,
Keegan Johnston, and
Jake Pankratz, who notched his seventh double of the season. Pankratz also pitched well in relief, striking out two in one hitless inning of relief.
The Red Hawks will now prepare for this weekend's 2022 MWC Tournament, which will be hosted by Lawrence University. Ripon's first game of the double-elimination tournament will be Friday morning against University of Chicago at Don Hawkins Field in Appleton, Wis.
