Women's Soccer Edged By Rockford

RIPON, Wis. – A pair of goals in the final half-hour of Saturday's match gave the visiting Rockford Regents a stunning 3-2 victory over Ripon College.

The Red Hawks gave their home fans at Prairie Field their best offensive showing of the young season. Freshman striker Kina Hopkins scored her first collegiate goal and gave Ripon the lead with a low strike in the 38th minute. The Red Hawks took a 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Ripon led twice in the match, only for Rockford to equalize each time off the foot of Samara Tanchuk. Soon after the Regents tied the match 1-1 in the 56th minute, Kaley Kowal reclaimed the lead for Ripon when she converted a penalty kick.

Rockford's (2-2) Autumn Huntington secured the match-winner in the 78th minute.

Andreanna Wilke made eight saves for the Red Hawks, double total of her opponent in goal, Elizabeth Elison.

"While the results are not what we ultimately want, progress is being made each and every day in this program. This season was always going to be about getting things back on track, and that is exactly what we are doing. If this group continues to work and compete the way we have the past few games, further success will come our way… and it will be well-deserved."

The Red Hawks return to action Tuesday, Sept. 13, when they visit Watertown, Wis., to face Maranatha Baptist. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
