Women's Basketball Dominant in 71-38 Victory Over Lawrence

The Ripon College women's basketball team posted a dominating 71-38 victory at Lawrence University Wednesday evening, moving their record to 9-6 and 5-1 in Midwest Conference play.

23 players saw the floor for the Red Hawks in tonight's game and 12 found their way into the scoring column on the scoresheet, led by Skyylar Brescia's 16 points. Brescia also added 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and a block in 16 minutes on the court before leaving with the game well in hand. Bella Opelt was the only other Ripon player to reach double-figures as she had 11 points while matching Brescia with 3 steals and adding another 5 rebounds. Jordan Bukouricz did a little bit of everything in her 16 minutes off the bench, grabbing a game-high 9 rebounds while chipping in 6 points and 3 assists. Abby Hartmann played just 12 minutes, but while she did not make her only shot attempt, she did post a game-high 4 assists to make an impact on the game.

Ripon scored 31 points in the first quarter, but you wouldn't have known that kind of performance was coming as the game was tied just 5-5 over 3 minutes in. But Ripon got hot and rattled off 21 straight points, shooting 11-of-15 from the floor during a run that spanned about 6 minutes of game time before Lawrence got a layup to drop with 42 seconds on the clock. The Red Hawks led 31-9 after the first 10 minutes of play.

The Red Hawks extended their lead to as many as 25 points in the second quarter before going into the locker rooms with a 45-21 advantage. Despite shooting just 31 percent in the frame, Ripon won the third quarter 10-4 and led by 30 points with 10 mintues to play. The Red Hawks got everyone involved in the final stanza, taking 23 shots in the last 10 minutes, before finishing off the 33-point victory.

Ripon will look to maintain its run of double-digit victories to open 2023 on Saturday, January 14th when the Red Hawks travel to Monmouth, Ill. to take on Monmouth College. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
