Jake Marshall officially starts as new head football coach

With the start of the spring semester, Jake Marshall will officially assume the role as head coach for the 2023 season. He also will maintain his current position as offensive coordinator.

Former head coach Ron Ernst retired after the 2022 season.

Marshall joined the football coaching staff in December 2016 and most recently served as the program's associate head coach and offensive coordinator. He previously worked at fellow Midwest Conference school Beloit College, where he served in a variety of roles for three years, including offensive coordinator during the 2016 season.

"I am excited about the Jake Marshall era of Ripon College football," says Athletic Director Ryan Kane. "Jake checks all the boxes you are looking for in a head football coach. He builds quality relationships, has a bright offensive mind and is a tireless recruiter, and his passion for Ripon College as an alumnus will ensure that he will do whatever it takes to take Ripon football to new heights. I cannot wait to see what he and his staff can accomplish under his leadership."

Marshall is a 2010 graduate of Ripon. While playing quarterback for the Red Hawks, he earned his bachelor's degree in sports management. As a senior, Marshall served as team co-captain. He was voted the team's offensive MVP after tying a school record with 19 rushing touchdowns. His 114 points ranked fourth in NCAA Division III that season and is third in school history for a single season.

"Having the opportunity to be named head coach at your alma mater is always special," Marshall says. "I'm honored to be trusted with this great responsibility and carry on the tradition of the winningest program in the MWC. This has been my goal since the day I walked across the stage at Commencement, and to see it come to fruition is an incredible experience. I'm most looking forward to continuing to work with our student-athletes to build upon the incredible tradition of excellence that is expected in the Ripon football program."

He  added, "We're going to set high expectations for our team and everyone who's involved with it. Our goal is to be 1% better at the end of every day. We will live up to the RED Standard: relentless, effort and discipline. If we can focus on those three things, the rest will take care of itself. We're fortunate to have great young men and coaches in this program who all understand the goals we have and what it takes to get there. Our job is to continue to raise the bar and make sure we're doing everything we can in the classroom, in the weight room, and on the field to try to reach new heights."

Marshall is a native of Valders, Wisconsin, where he attended Valders High School. He and his wife, Summer, reside in Ripon with their son, Woodson, and daughter, Keller.
