RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon men's soccer program began its time at Hopp Stadium in style, using a pair of second-half goals to defeat Lakeland 2-0 on a chilly Tuesday night at the Red Hawks' new home.
Ripon (3-3-5) only had 3 shots on goal the entire night but made the first two count. After a scoreless first half for both teams,
Finley Manning took a beautiful skip pass from
Andre Robertson and drilled a shot past the keeper to give the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute. This was Manning's fourth goal of the season.
Lakeland (3-9-1) continuously put pressure on the Red Hawks, but the defense held strong and Ripon's offense wasn't done scoring in the frame. Off of a corner kick in the 71st minute, there was a scrum in the middle of the field.
Tim Geocaris scooped it up and found the back of the net, on a pass from his brother
Thomas Geocaris, to double Ripon's lead and effectively put the match away. This was Geocaris' second goal of 2023.
Manning led the squad with 4 shots, while Geocaris had 2.
Abner Contreras,
Eli Dietzel, Robertson and
Jacob Oppeneer each contributed a shot to the cause as well.
Drew Seyfer, in his second career start in goal, produced his first complete-game clean sheet and made a career-high 8 saves.
Lakeland had a 17-10 advantage in shots – and an 8-3 lead in shots on goal.
18 fouls and 5 yellow cards were issued, with 10 fouls and 3 cards going against Ripon.
