APPLETON, Wisconsin – The Ripon women's soccer program played the final 87 minutes of its suspended match from Tuesday against Lawrence, falling to the Vikings 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Banta Bowl.
Due to continued lightning soon after starting the match on Tuesday, Ripon (6-6-3, 1-5-1 MWC) and Lawrence (6-5-3, 5-1-1 MWC) picked up where they left off on Wednesday in a de facto doubleheader with the men's program, who also play at Lawrence on Wednesday night.
The Vikings were on the attack throughout the first half, totaling 11 shots (and 3 on goal) while holding Ripon without a shot in the first half. However, the Ripon defense stood tall as it was a 0-0 game heading into the second half.
Soon into the second stanza, Lawrence would score the only goal of the game. Kylie Melonis connected on a feed from Sophia Gaus in the 56th minute to give the Vikings a lead they would not relinquish.
Lawrence outshot Ripon 27-1 (11-0 on goal).
Kaley Kowal had the lone Red Hawks' shot.
Andreanna Wilke posted 10 saves for Ripon.
