MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The Ripon College baseball team dropped the first game of its Spring Trip 10-5 to North Park University on Saturday afternoon at the USA Stadium Complex in Millington, Tennessee.
Trailing 8-1 after four innings, and keeping North Park (1-9) scoreless for three straight. The Red Hawks were able to chip away at the lead in the top of the eighth.
Michael Sheehy started things with a single to right and later moved to second when
Cormac Madigan walked. Ripon loaded the bases with two outs when
Brock Warren walked.
Jack Anderson plated the team's second run of the game when he walked to make it 8-2 and keep the bases loaded. The Red Hawks tallied its fourth walk of the inning when
Kaleb Burns walked, which allowed Madigan to score and make it, 8-3.
North Park tacked on a pair of runs on a hit, a hit by pitch, a pair of walks, and an error to take a 10-3 lead going into the ninth.
Ripon (0-4) took advantage of the walks in the top of the ninth when
Brady Price and Sheehy both walked back-to-back to open the frame. Price came around to score when
Cam Stampfl doubled to center to make it, 10-4. Sheehy took third on the play. Sheehy later scored off an RBI groundout to second by David Hickman for the second out of the inning. The inning ended when Sheehy attempted to steal home.
As a team, the Red Hawks registered 10 walks for the game. Stampfl finished the game with a team-high two walks to go along with a double, a run scored, and an RBI.
Teammates Warren and Sheehy each finished with two hits apiece. Warren tallied a triple and one of the team's five RBIs. Sheehy finished with a pair of runs scored.
Warren took his second loss of the season on the mound for the Red Hawks. He allowed two hits and three unearned runs in an inning of work.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Sunday when they face both Olivet College in its first game of the day and then facing Illinois Wesleyan University later in the day.
