MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The Ripon College baseball team split a pair of games today between Olivet College and Illinois Wesleyan University to go 1-1 on its second day of the team's Spring Trip at the USA Stadium Complex on Sunday.
Cam Stampfl tallied four hits, a triple, a run scored, two stolen bases, and four RBIs on the day for the Red Hawks (1-5).
The Red Hawks are back in action tomorrow morning when they face Eureka College. The first pitch is slated for 11 AM CT.
Ripon 7, Olivet 6
After both teams went scoreless through the first five innings, Ripon got on the board first in the bottom of the sixth when
Brock Warren singled to lead off the inning. He later moved to second on a ground out to the second baseman.
Evan Olson's RBI single allowed Warren to score and put the Red Hawks up, 1-0.
The lead didn't last long as Olivet (0-9) plated five runs in the top of the seventh on three singles, a double, a walk, and a grand slam to take a 5-1 lead.
Trailing by four going into their half of the seventh, Ripon used a one-out walk to get things started.
Cormac Madigan doubled to put runners on second and third. Both runners came around to score from Stampfl's single to make it, 5-3. Warren later singled which allowed Stampfl to take second and
Jack Anderson's walk loaded the bases for the Red Hawks. All three runners safely completed a triple steal to make it a 5-4 game before the inning ended on a flyout and a popout.
The Tigers added another run in the top of the eighth on a pair of hits to push their lead to, 6-4. But the lead didn't last long when the Red Hawks pushed three runs across in their half of the frame.
Gabriel Zielinski and
Remington Cox started things off when they both drew back-to-back walks.
Mitchell Lukasik's sac bunt allowed both runners to advance one base each and for him to make it safely to first off of a throwing error by the Olivet pitcher.
With bases loaded and no outs, Madigan reached on an RBI fielder's choice that allowed Zielinski to score and cut the lead to one. Lukasik was out on the play at second. Madigan later stole second putting two runners in scoring position. Stampfl's two-run triple plated both Cox and Madigan to give Ripon its second lead of the game.
Warren and Madigan combined going 4-for-10, a double, a triple, three runs scored, and an RBI.
Caleb Mammoser got the start on the hill for Ripon. He scattered eight hits over 6.1 innings allowing five earned runs while striking out four. Reliever
Brett Tetzlaff picked up the win (1-0) and gave up three hits over 1.2 innings of work and fanned two in the process. Closer
Brock Turkington pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his first save of the inning.
Olivet's Josh Lucier took the loss (0-1) on the hill. He allowed two hits and three runs in an inning of work.
Illinois Wesleyan 11, Ripon 1 – 7 Innings
Illinois Wesleyan (3-6) took an early 1-0 lead after the first inning, both teams went scoreless for the next two innings before the Red Hawks got on the board. Ripon's
Kaleb Burns drew a seven-pitch walk to start things off in the top of the fourth. He later stole second and came around to score off of Zielinski's RBI double to left center to tie the game, 1-1. Zielinski was able to move to third on a wild pitch but back-to-back strikeouts ended the inning for the Red Hawks.
The Titans blew the game open when they scored nine runs on nine hits in the bottom of the fourth to make it, 10-1. They tacked on an 11
th run in the bottom of the fifth before the game came to an end after seven innings.
Ripon as a team tallied three hits (two doubles) and five walks. Zielinski finished the day going 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI, and a walk.

Mitchell Lukasik suffered the loss (0-1) allowing 10 hits over the course of 3.1 innings while allowing seven earned runs.
