MILLINGTON, Tenn. – A strong pitching performance from the Ripon College baseball team propelled the team to a 9-1 win over Eureka College today at the USA Stadium Complex in Millington, Tennessee.
The Red Hawks improved to 2-5 on the season while Eureka drops to 2-5 on the year.
Going into the top of the fourth with a 1-0 lead Ripon broke the game open as it plated four runs as
Evan Olson got things started with a single through the left side. He later stole second, while teammate
Michael Sheehy walked.
Kaleb Burns' single to third loaded the bases for Ripon. David Hickman's RBI single to left field scored Olson and kept the bases full of Red Hawks. Sheehy later scored off an RBI groundout to second by
Zach Albrent. Hickman and Burns each moved up a bag on the play.
With just one out,
Cormac Madigan's RBI single to right drove in Burns to push the lead to, 4-0. Hickman was thrown out at home attempting to score on the play for the second out of the inning. Madigan later stole second and then scored off of
Cam Stampfl's double to right field before a groundout to third ended the inning.
Ripon tacked on another run in the seventh and three in the eighth to take a 9-0 lead before Eureka scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the eighth to make it, 9-1.
As a team, Ripon tallied six stolen bases with Madigan tallying three on the day. Stampfl, Warren, Olson each had a stolen base.
Madigan finished the day going 2-for-3 with three runs scored, an RBI, and a walk. Hickman also tallied a pair of hits (2-for-4), a double, two RBIs, and a run scored for Ripon.
Ripon starter
Robbie Roguszka pitched six strong innings allowing three hits and two walks while striking out three in the process to earn his first win of the season (1-0). The bullpen allowed just one run on two hits combined over three innings of work.
Rico Garcia took the loss (0-1) for Eureka. He allowed five runs on six hits over five innings.
Ripon is off tomorrow, but back in action on Wednesday at 10 AM when it takes on the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
