APPLETON, Wis.-
Cam Stampfl's four-hit day propelled the Ripon College baseball team to a 12-6 road conference win and series sweep over Lawrence University. With the win, the Red Hawks move back to .500 on the season at 11-11 and 7-4 in the Midwest Conference while the Vikings fall to 7-13 overall and 3-6 in the conference.
With a 4-2 lead going into the top of the fourth, Ripon broke the game open and it all started when
Jack Anderson walked to open the inning. He later was able to take second on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt from
Kaleb Burns. Burns was out at first on the play. Â
Cormac Madigan walked to put runners on first and second. With one out and two on, Stampfl lined out to the shortstop for the second out of the inning. Now with two outs,
Brock Warren plated Anderson from second when he doubled to center field to make it, 5-2. Madigan moved to third on the play. Both runners later scored when
Evan Olson parked a three-run home run to left center to go up 8-2 before the inning ended.
Lawrence pushed three runs across in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap and make it 8-5 and then scored another run in the bottom of the sixth to come within two.
The Red Hawks added three runs in the top of the eighth and a run in the ninth to go on to win, 12-6.
As a team, Ripon tallied 11 hits, eight walks, and five extra-base hits, (two home runs and three doubles).
Reliever
Mitchell Lukasik picked up his third win (3-1) of the season. He allowed four hits over 4.1 innings of work while allowing a run (earned) and fanning five.
Stampfl finished the game going 4-for-6 with five RBIs, two runs scored, a home run, and a double. Fellow teammate Warren tallied a double, two runs scored, two RBIs, and three walks while going 1-for-2.
Olson and
Kyler Hickman combined going 4-for-9 with five RBIs, and a run scored. Olson registered a home run while Hickman tallied a double.
The Red Hawks are back on the road next Tuesday at 3 pm. when they travel to Carthage College
