Baseball Wins On The Road At Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis.- Alex Pankratz's four RBIs propel the Ripon College baseball team to a 9-8 win on the road against Carthage College this afternoon. The Red Hawks move to 12-11 on the season while the Firebirds fall to 7-19 on the year.

Down 5-2 with nine outs remaining in the game Ripon was able to push a pair of runs across in the top of the seventh to make it a 5-4 game.

Then in the top of the eighth Cam Stampfl lead off with a bunt single and later moved to second when Brock Warren singled to center. Evan Olson's RBI single to left drove in Stampfl to tie the game at five and send Warren to second. Warren later was able to advance to third on a flyout to right and then scored off of Zach Albrent's sacrifice flyout to put the Red Hawks in front, 6-5.

With Olson on first and two outs now in the inning, Remington Cox singled up the middle and took second on the throw that went to third to try and get Olson who went first to third on the play. Plankratz drove both runners in when he singled to right to make it 8-5 before the inning ended.

Carthage got two of the runs back and made it an 8-7 game in its half of the eighth.

The Red Hawks added an insurance run in the top of the ninth to go up 9-7. Ripon held off a late rally by the Firebirds as they plated a run off a two-out home run to come within one before a strikeout ended the rally for them and give Ripon the 9-8 victory.

As a team, the Red Hawks recorded their 10th game of 10 or more hits this season with a season-high of 23 hits back on April 5 against Lawrence University that sparked a 28-2 win.

Ripon in its last four games has tallied a stolen base and has recorded at least one stolen base in 20 of 23 games this season.

Reliever Hunter Thompson picked up his first win of the season as he allowed two hits, and two runs (both earned) over the course of two innings of work. Brock Turkington earned his first save of the season in the process.

Pankratz finished the day going 2-for-2 with four RBIs. His four RBIs are a career- and season-high while he tallied his eighth multi-hit game this year. Warren and Remington combined going 6-for-8 with three runs scored.

Ripon is back in action on Thursday when they host the University of Chicago in a conference doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 1 pm.
