MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Ripon College men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 contest at Cornell College Saturday afternoon in a league contest.
The Red Hawks are now 5-11 overall and 2-2 in league action.
Head coach Steve Burns' team went toe-to-toe with the home squad throughout each match. In doubles play, the closest match came at No. 2 doubles when
CJ Counts and
Ty Rondestvedt dropped an 8-7 (7-5) match.
At No. 3 doubles,
Jack Ives and
Austin Stevens fell by an 8-2 count while top-seeded
Drew Jorgensen and
Caleb Sippel fell by an 8-1 score.
In singles action, the Red Hawks had a pair of matches go three sets. Sippel fell at No. 2 by a score of 1-6, 6-1, 2-6. Rondestvedt lost a 6-1, 5-7, 4-10 match at the No. 5 slot.
Jorgensen lost a 6-1, 6-2 decision while Counts lost 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3.
Stevens dropped a 6-4, 6-0 match at the No. 4 spot while
Casey Bryant lost a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 6.
The Red Hawks return to action Apr. 22 when they host Lake Forest at 3 p.m.
