LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Ripon softball team fell in both ends of a Saturday doubleheader, dropping the opener to Lake Forest 8-0 before seeing the Foresters take the nightcap by a final of 5-1.
The Foresters got on the board early, taking advantage of a Ripon error in the first inning to strike first. The third inning got away from the Red Hawks, as seven Lake Forest runs came in to score behind just four hits.
Mikaela Lawrence,
Sydney Swanson and
Kayla Cruz each picked up a base hit to highlight the offense in Game 1.
Brennah Bronk took over in the circle once the damage had been done, and she responded by holding Lake Forest to one hit over 1.2 innings of work.
The Foresters began Game 2 with another first inning run before adding another two innings later. Swanson singled through the left side in the fourth to give Ripon its first run of the day, but Lake Forest kept the foot on the gas and added three more runs over the next two innings.
Swanson and
