Baseball Completes Season And Series Sweep of Knox

RIPON, Wis.- The Ripon College baseball team picked up a 10-7 win over visiting Knox College in Midwest Conference action this morning. With the win, the Red Hawks completed the series sweep against Prairie Fire and improve to 17-11 and 12-4 in the conference while Knox falls to 7-22 and 1-14 in the MWC.

Tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the fourth, Ripon broke the game open, plating five runs on six hits. Jack Anderson got things started when he singled through the right side then moved to second off of Kaleb Burns' sacrifice bunt.   Burns was out on the play at first.  Cormac Madigan walked to put two runners on. A single through the right side from Cam Stampfl loaded the bases full of Red Hawks with one down before Brock Warren drove in both Anderson and Madigan to put Ripon back in front, 4-2. Both Warren and Stampfl executed a successful double steal but an error by the third baseman allowed both runners to move up an extra 90 feet. Stampfl's run made it a 5-2 game.

Kyler Hickman kept the inning going as his RBI single down the left field line scored Warren to make it a 6-2 lead. Following a flyout to center for the second out of the inning, Remington Cox singled through the left side to put runners on first and second. Alex Pankratz's double to center drove in Hickman to make it 7-2 and send Cox to third before a flyout ended the frame.

The Red Hawks added runs in the fifth and the sixth to go up 9-2 but Knox attempted to chip away as it pushed three runs across in the seventh and two in the eighth to make it, 9-7.

Ripon added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to go up, 10-7. The Prairie Fire threatened in the ninth but was unable to capitalize before a pick-off and a flyout ended the game.

Ripon starter Michael Sheehy moved to 2-0 on the season as he earned the win. He allowed four hits over five innings of work, and two runs (both earned) while fanning three.

Stampfl, Warren, Cox, and Remington each tallied two hits while driving in six runs combined and five runs scored.

The Red Hawks are back in action this afternoon at 4 pm when they host Monmouth College in a makeup game from earlier in the season.
