Baseball Tallies Thirty-Nine Runs to Sweep Doubleheader

MAUSTON, Wis.- The Ripon College baseball team produced 39 runs combined in a doubleheader sweep of conference foe Lawrence University this afternoon. The two wins pushed the Red Hawks to 9-8 overall and 5-2 in the Midwest while the Vikings fell to 5-11 on the season and 1-4 in the conference.

Brock Warren finished the day going 4-for-7 with eight RBIs, six runs scored, two doubles, and a home run.

On the day, Ripon tallied seven home runs combined in both games with Remington Cox tallying two of them himself in game two.

The Red Hawks are on the road tomorrow at 1 PM when they travel to conference rival Beloit College.
 
Game 1: Ripon 11, Lawrence 10
Trailing 4-1 going into the bottom of the third with one, Kaleb Burns was plunked and later scored off of Corman Madigan's home run to left field to make it, 4-3. Following the home run, Brock Warren and Jack Anderson drew back-to-back walks and Anderson scored off of Evan Olson's RBI single to left to tie the game at four. Warren moved to second on the play. Following a fly to short, Nick Tenny doubled to the left-center gap that plated Warren from second to give the Red Hawks the lead and sent Olson to third. A wild pitch allowed Olson and give the Red Hawks a 6-4 lead and send Tenny to third before the inning ended on a strikeout.

The Vikings tied the game 6-6 in the top of the fourth but Ripon reclaimed the lead in its half of the inning.  Both teams went back and forth in the fifth and sixth innings with no one gaining ground. Not until the seventh when Hickman plated a two-run home run to make it 11-9 in favor of the Red Hawks.

Lawrence was able to get a run back in the top of the eighth to make it 11-10 but the Red Hawks were able to hold them there for the win.

Reliever Michael Sheehy earned his first win of the season while going 2.2 innings of work and allowing two hits, a pair of runs, and two strikeouts. Closer Orion Rieden earned his first save of the season for Ripon. He punched out three in 1.1 innings of action.

As a team, the Red Hawks tallied three home runs and three doubles in the game and only Tenny had one of each.

Game 2: Ripon 28, Lawrence 2 – 7 innings
Ripon broke the game open in the bottom of the third when it added six runs to its 5-0 lead. Tenny walked to start things off and then moved to second when he was plunked. Both runners moved up 90 feet off of a sacrifice bunt. Kaleb Bruns drove both runners in when he doubled to make it, 7-0. He later came around to score off of Madigan's RBI double.
Madigan then moved to third following a groundout. With two outs Warren singled to drive Madigan to make it 9-0 Red Hawks. Olson parked a two-run shot to put Ripon up 11-0 before the inning ended.

The Red Hawks scored one in the fourth, 11 in the fifth, and five in the sixth to take a 28-0 lead. The Vikings tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the seventh before the Red Hawks closed out the game with a 28-2 victory.

Ripon's starter Robbie Roguszka threw six strong innings allowing a hit and a pair of walks while fanning five to earn the win.
