Baseball Forces Winner-Take-All Against Beloit

Beloit, Wis - The Ripon College baseball team forces a winner-take-all game against Beloit College after defeating the Buccaneers 4-3 in an elimination game this afternoon in the Midwest Conference Baseball Tournament. The championship game of the tournament will take place late this afternoon. Ripon moves to 25-17 now on the year while Beloit falls to 30-12.

With two quick outs in the bottom of the first, the Red Hawks were down to its last chance but Evan Olson kept the inning alive when he singled to third.  He later scored off of Kyler Hickman's two-run shot over the left field wall to make it, 2-0.  The home run was Hickman's 10th of the season leading all Ripon hitters while extending his hitting streak to 19 games.

Beloit cut the lead in half in the top of the second when it used a pair of singles and a walk to make it a 2-1.

Both teams went scoreless for the next two innings until the Buccaneers took the lead in the top of the fifth as they plated a pair of runs off of a single, double, and another single to take a 3-2 lead.

In Ripon's half of the fifth, Cormac Madigan singled to left with one out and later scored when Olson double to left to tie the game at three.

The Red Hawks then retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Zach Albrent kept the inning alive when he walked. He then took advantage of a wild pitch to move up 90 feet. Kaleb Burns' RBI single to left allowed Albrent to score and put Ripon back in front, 4-3.

Ripon's pitching allowed just one baserunner over the last three innings to hold on to the lead and secure the win.

Starter Caleb Mammoser allowed five hits over five innings of work. He allowed three runs (all earned). Reliever Brock Turkington picked up his third win of the season to improve to 3-1. He allowed three hits over four innings while striking out one.

Madigan, Burns, and Olsson combined going 6-for-11 with two runs scored, two RBIs, and a double.  Each of them tallied two hits apiece.
