RIPON, Wisconsin – After posting times near the top of the Division III leaderboards and the Ripon record books, Jacoby Cefalu and Jenny Cortes of the Ripon track and field programs have been named the Midwest Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track Performers of the Week as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Cortes was Ripon's standout performer on Saturday in the Red Hawks' alumni dual meet with Beloit. The sophomore took first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.21, over 12 seconds clear of the runner-up finisher. Her showing was the second-fastest 800 time in program history and is currently the 11th-fastest time in Division III this season.
 
Cefalu won a pair of events in Ripon's alumni dual meet with Beloit on Saturday, helping the Red Hawk men take first. He broke his own school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.94, the 28th-fastest 60-dash time in Division III this season. He also won the 200-meter dash in 22.47, the second-fastest mark in program history and the 21st-fastest time in DIII this season.
 
These are the first career weekly honors for both Cefalu and Cortes and the first weekly honors of the season for Ripon as a team.
 
Ripon returns to action on Friday (January 19) as the Red Hawks host St. Norbert and Lawrence in the Red Hawk Opener. Field events begin at 4:30 p.m. while running events get started at 5 p.m inside the Willmore Center.
