OSHKOSH, Wisconsin – The Ripon swim and dive programs were back in action for the first time in seven weeks on Friday night, swimming against UW-Oshkosh and MSOE inside Albee Hall.
The women defeated MSOE and fell to UW-Oshkosh, while the men were defeated by both the Engineers and the Titans.
On the women's side,
Natalie Weidner had a strong showing in the 1000 free, propelling her to a first-place finish and a time of 11:57.50 – over 13 seconds ahead of the next competitor. She was the only Red Hawk female to take first, though a host of others took second and third including
Ella Olive (second, 100 fly, 1:11.10),
Lauren Bahr (third, 200 free, 2:15.39),
Lillian McGuire (third, 100 fly, 1:13.35),
Sophie Czerwonka (second, 100 back, 1:05.39) and
Kristy Cerna-Rivera (third, 3-meter diving, 159.83). Weidner also placed third in the 100 free (59.36), while the 400 free relay team of Czerwonka, Weidner, McGuire and Bahr was runner-up with a time of 4:01.01.
For the men, the quartet of
Cooper Herr,
Brigham Freeman,
Ben Rahlf and
Ben Chambers each won individual events. Chambers won the 50 free in 22.93, Rahlf paced the 100 fly field in 55.50, Herr was the top finisher in the 100 back in 56.41 and Freeman edged out the 100 breast field with a time of 1:04.50.
Chambers also took second in the 100 back (57.75) and Herr was the runner-up in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.36. The aforementioned foursome took second in the 400 medley relay with a 3:45.40 showing.
UP NEXT: Ripon hosts its final meet of the season at Kohler Pool on Saturday (January 20) as the Red Hawks welcome in Carroll and St. Norbert for the Senior Day meet beginning at 1 p.m.
