GRINNELL, Iowa – The Ripon swim and dive programs wrapped up their 2023-24 seasons on Sunday night inside the Russell K. Osgood Pool on the campus of Grinnell College for the Midwest Conference Championships.
The women came in tied for fifth with 225 points, while the men took seventh overall with 176 points. Grinnell swept both the men's and women's team titles.
Sophie Czerwonka was the only Red Hawk to qualify for the "A" final on Sunday, doing so in the 200 breast, but
Ben Chambers (200 back),
Cooper Herr (100 free),
Natalie Weidner (100 free),
Brigham Freeman (200 breast),
Ella Olive (200 breast),
Ben Rahlf (200 fly) and
Kaitlyn Gennaro (200 fly) all qualified for the consolation finals.
Also on Sunday night, both the men's and women's 400 free relay teams competed, along with
Sky Domingo in the 1650 free.
Rahlf had Ripon's best consolation finish of the day, taking second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:01.90. In the 200 back, Chambers came in third with a time of 2:02.33 to hold the third-fastest 200 back time in program history.
Also in Sunday night's final session, Weidner and Olive took sixth in the 100 free (57.74) and the 200 breast (2:43.54), respectively. Herr finished the 100 free in 48.65, good for seventh place, while Gennaro touched the wall in 2:53.04 to take eighth in the 200 fly. Domingo took 11th in the 1650 free with a time of 19:21.25.
Relays were the final events of the weekend – the men's 400 free relay team of Freeman, Chambers, Rahlf and Herr was fourth in 3:15.76, while the women's 400 free relay team of Domingo, Czerwonka, Weidner and Bahr also took fourth (3:47.76).
Czerwonka, in the only "A" final of the night, was unfortunately disqualified, as was Freeman in the 200 breast consolation.
