Men's Track and Field

Three School Records Fall at Red Hawk Invite

RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon track and field programs broke three school records in Saturday's home Red Hawk Invite as both the men and women took fourth place out of 11 teams inside the Willmore Center.

The men's 4x200 meter relay team of Jake Davies, Dameco Walker, Jacoby Cefalu and Logan Vander Galien started the meet strong with a first place, 1:29.97 showing that broke the school record. Their finish was nearly six seconds ahead of the next relay team.

Two other school records were broken on the women's side, including a record that had stood for 22 years. Jenny Cortes ran the 800-meter run in 2:17.36, good for a second-place finish and the new Ripon program record. She broke the previous record that was set in 2002 by Julie Kacmarcik.

Additionally, Ali Denamur took first and broke the school record in the 3,000-meter run. Her time of 10:16.96 unseated the previous record set by Michelle Matter in 2013.

On the men's side, Walker continued his impressive indoor season with a 51.27 time in the 400-meter dash, good for first place. A host of other Red Hawks earned top-10 finishes: Vander Galien ran the 60-meter dash in 6.99 to take third, while Rainier Villanueva (fifth, 4:25.26), Jacob Jumbeck (eighth, 4:27.41) and Matt Seeber (ninth, 4:28.74) all had strong showings in the mile. Adisun Romprey (fourth, 2:00.93) and Seeber (eighth, 2:05.31) performed well in the 800-meter run while Max Bryant (seventh, 23.73) and Finley Manning (eighth, 23.75) earned top-10 finishes in the 200-meter dash. Furthermore, Christian Kuwaye (sixth, 9:00.73) was steady in the 3000-meter run and the 4x400 team of Bryant, Villanueva, Jumbeck and Romprey took second in 3:33.83.

The women had an equal amount of success as the men. At the beginning of the meet, the 4x200 relay foursome of Sidney Hoffa, Madylyn Woyak, Heleyna Weiss and Bridget Finn came in second with a 1:50.86 showing. Gabby Allard excelled in the mile, taking ninth with a time of 5:31.13, while Finn dominated the 400-meter dash and took second in 1:01.78. In addition to Cortes' performance in the 800, Woyak came in eighth in that event with a 2:31.25 time. Denamur wasn't the only Ripon standout in the 3,000 as Mikayla Flyte took third in 10:43.48 and Greta Mahler took seventh with a time of 12:11.39.

Two Red Hawks placed in the top five in field events: Sidney Hoffa in the long jump (fifth, 5.17m) and Kalyn Otzelberger in the shot put (third, 11.81m) and the weight throw (fourth, 14.15m).
