VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia – Jenny Cortes,
Jacoby Cefalu and
Dameco Walker of the Ripon track and field programs all competed on the opening day of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center on Friday as Ripon added another All-American to its mantle in men's indoor track and field.
Walker earned All-American status in the long jump for the second consecutive season and third time in his career after posting a 7.24m jump on Friday to earn third place, the title of All-American and his best-ever performance at the national championships – indoor or outdoor. The senior caps off an indoor long jump season in which he became a three-time Midwest Conference champion in that event just three weeks ago.
Cefalu wrapped up his 2023-24 indoor campaign in the prelims of the 200-meter dash, running it in 21.89 to break his own school record – clipping his previous mark of 22.07 set last weekend at the NCAA Final Qualifier. He continues to hold the Ripon indoor record in both the 200 and 60-meter dashes and was the first Ripon male to solely qualify for the indoor championships in a running event since Corey Zimmerman in 2013.
Cortes finished her indoor campaign with a 2:15.69 time in the 800-meter dash. She broke a new school record in the event last weekend at the NCAA Final Qualifier to secure her spot in Virginia Beach, capping off a highly successful indoor season. The sophomore also became Ripon's first-ever female to participate in the indoor championships solely for a running event.
