RIPON, Wisconsin – After a record-breaking start to the 2024 outdoor campaign,
Jacoby Cefalu of the Ripon track and field program has been named the Midwest Conference Outdoor Track Performer of the Week as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.
Cefalu got off to a strong start in the outdoor season at the Wisconsin Private College Championships, breaking a school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.62 (second-fastest in the North Region) to take first place in that event. He also won the competitive 100-meter dash in 10.83 (10th-fastest in the North Region) to tie his own school record in that event that he set two seasons ago.
Denamur crushed a new school record in the 5000-meter run at the Wisconsin Private College Championships on Saturday, setting a new program mark with a first-place finish of 17:38.56 – over 30 seconds clear of the previous record. Her time is the sixth-fastest in the North Region so far this outdoor season.
This is the second career weekly award for Cefalu and the sixth honor for Ripon this season. Cefalu and
Jenny Cortes swept the MWC Performer of the Week awards on January 16,
Bridget Finn was honored on both January 30 and February 20 and Cortes again received recognition on February 13.
Ripon continues the outdoor season at the Marquette Invitational on Friday, April 12 in Milwaukee.
