Women's Soccer Draws in MWC Opener

JACKSONVILLE, Illinois – Martina Palazzolo of the Ripon women's soccer program scored in the 47th minute on Saturday afternoon at England Stadium as the Red Hawks opened Midwest Conference play with a 1-1 tie against Illinois College for the second consecutive season.

Palazzolo got Ripon (2-5-3, 0-0-1 MWC) on the board early in the second half with her first tally of the season – the sophomore found the back of the net unassisted, countering a goal scored by Illinois College (7-2-3, 0-0-1 MWC) late into the first half, just 32 seconds before halftime.

Coincidentally, Palazzolo also scored Ripon's only goal against the Lady Blues in 2023.

Saturday's contest in Southern Illinois was a defensive struggle. There were just 10 total shots taken, with Palazzolo, Ashlynn Erickson and Jessi Griepentrog all recording shots for Ripon. IC had a slight 3-2 edge in shots on goal.

The match was not lacking chances for either side – IC had eight corner kicks, while Ripon had one. Britt Hable played all 90 minutes in goal, recording a pair of saves.

There were 27 total fouls between the teams, while the Lady Blues were issued a trio of yellow cards.
