Ripon Blitzes Lake Forest, Wins by 41

RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon women's basketball program gave up just 12 first half points and rolled to an 81-40 home win over Lake Forest on Tuesday night inside Weiske Gymnasium.
 
Limiting Lake Forest (2-12, 1-5 MWC) to only six made field goals in the first half, Ripon (11-4, 5-1 MWC) forced 12 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes, blowing the game open with a 48-point first half. The Red Hawks led by as much as 50 in the second half.
 
STANDOUT HAWKS
  • Senior forward Ella Ten Pas led all scorers with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting. She added nine rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks.
  • Freshman guard Halle Van Horn tallied 14 points, five rebounds and two assists on 6-of-8 shooting.
  • Senior guard Anna Fahrney added 10 points and five rebounds.
  • Sophomore forward Sophie Schlieve recorded eight points, two rebounds and two blocks. She was a perfect 3-of-3 from the field in eight minutes.
  • Sophomore guard Laney Havlovitz chipped in five points, a career-high nine assists, a career-high eight rebounds and four steals.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Ripon wasted little time jumping on the Foresters early as the Red Hawks scored the first 11 points of the game. Lake Forest's biggest scoring run of the first half was four, cutting its deficit to nine with 4:41 remaining in the stanza. However, Ripon scored the last 11 points of the frame – doing so in under four minutes – to lead 26-6 after 10 minutes.
 
The second quarter was much like the first – Ripon allowed just six points in the period. The Red Hawks led by at least 20 for the entirety of the quarter, putting Lake Forest in a continued hole. Leading 32-10, Ripon went on a 14-0 spurt to pull in front by 36. The Foresters went six and a half minutes without a basket in the stanza and trailed 48-12 at intermission.
 
Ripon led by at least 30 for the entire third quarter. Though Lake Forest hit consecutive triples in the early minutes, the Red Hawk lead grew to 42 as Lake Forest went over five minutes without a made field goal. Maggie Glaus connected on a layup with two minutes to go in the period, Ripon's lead was 40+ for the rest of the stanza and the Red Hawks led 67-26 with one quarter to play.
 
With the outcome well in hand, Lake Forest found the basket for the first points of the fourth quarter. A 10-0 Ripon spurt put the hosts in front 77-28 with five minutes to go in the game, and a jumper by Sarah Trzinski made the lead 50 at 79-29. The Foresters scored the final five points of the game, but Ripon walked away with the 41-point win.
 
KEY STATS
  • Ripon shot an efficient 33-of-73 from the field (45.2%) and held Lake Forest to 15-of-54 shooting (27.8%).
  • The Red Hawks had 60 rebounds for the second consecutive game, limiting the Foresters to 27.
  • Ripon turned Lake Forest over 18 times.
  • The Red Hawks scored 50 paint points, 25 second-chance points, 26 fastbreak points and 19 points off turnovers.
  • Rebecca Christodoulou led Lake Forest with 13 points.
