RIPON, Wisconsin – Ben Fisher of the Ripon men's track and field program set a new school record in the high jump as both the Red Hawk men and women welcomed in Carthage, St. Norbert and Lawrence to the Willmore Center for the annual Red Hawk Opener on Friday night.
Competing against some of the state's best private school competition, the Red Hawks strung together personal and season-bests in their third consecutive home meet to open the 2024-25 indoor season. The men came in third as a team, while the women took fourth.
Fisher had the highlight of the night, breaking his own school record set two years ago in the high jump. His first-place mark of 2.07m is now the fourth-best high jump mark in all of Division III so far this season.
Elsewhere in field events,
Logan Vander Galien won the long jump with a top jump of 6.52m and
Braedy Picard took third in the shot put with a throw of 13.33m.
In the men's 4x200 relay, Ripon's foursome of
Jacoby Cefalu,
Finley Manning,
Jacob Davies and Vander Galien cruised to a first-place finish with a time of 1:32.15. Individually, Vander Galien took second in the 60-meter dash finals, sporting a 7.16 time.
Ripon went 1-2 in the 400-meter run, as Davies (50.25) and
Rainier Villanueva (52.51) paced the field of 13 runners. The Red Hawks had two of the top three finishers in the 60-meter hurdle finals, as
Zak Ladage (8.93) and
Dorian Phillips (9.27) came in second and third, respectively.
Matt Seeber was the third finisher in the mile, doing so in 4:33.58.
On the women's track side,
Joley Berger and
Gabby Allard impressed in the mile, going 1-2 in 5:20.82 and 5:26.62, respectively.
Madylyn Woyak ran an efficient 400-meter run, taking first by nearly two seconds in 1:01.79.
To finish out the meet, both the men's and women's 4x400 relay teams finished in the top three. The women's foursome of
Jenny Cortes,
Heleyna Weiss, Woyak and
Devin Ibarra placed second in 4:18.78, while the men's quartet of
Christian Kuwaye, Villanueva, Manning and
Amir Williams narrowly took third with a time of 3:37.94.
UP NEXT
Ripon competes at UW-Whitewater next weekend (January 31-February 1) in the Squig Converse Invite + Multi. The men will compete Friday, while women's events are Saturday.
