RIPON, Wis. -- The Ripon College Esports program won their second straight Valorant match this Thursday, Oct 2, taking down Chippewa Valley Technical College. CVTC was tied for first place in the Wisconsin Esports Conference Valorant rankings, while Ripon entered the contest in tenth.
Ripon would put together a strong opening against the River Otters, jumping out to a 6-3 lead in the first game, with freshman
Madison Dicosola (Minooka, Ill., Minooka Community HS) leading all players in kills. Dicosola would finish the day with 77 kills and a 5.02 K/D ratio, leading all players in both categories.
Despite the strong start from the Red Hawks, CVTC would grind their way back in game one, winning eight straight rounds to capture the opener 13-7. Undeterred by the comeback, Ripon would respond strongly in game two, winning close rounds down the stretch. Tied at 8-all, Ripon secured five of the final six rounds, leveling the match. The thin margin was best seen in the point spread between the two programs, with Ripon holding 22808 points in the game to CVTC's 22593, compared to a nearly 3000 point spread between teams in game one.
The deciding game would again necessitate clutch play out of the Red Hawks, with both teams trading close rounds throughout. Tied at 10-all, Ripon would win the final three games of the match to secure the victory, with freshman
Ruby Rosemary (Green Bay, Wis., Bay Port HS) scoring the final kill for the Red Hawks.
