GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Ripon College men's basketball team battled NCAA Division I opponent UW-Green Bay on Monday morning, falling 83-63 in a non-conference matchup at the Kress Center.
The Red Hawks went toe-to-toe with the Phoenix early, trailing by just three points at halftime (38-35) after shooting 44% from the field and knocking down six 3-pointers in the opening frame. However, Green Bay pulled away in the second half behind a strong offensive surge, outscoring Ripon 45-28 to seal the win.
Junior Jarton Davis (Brown Deer, Wis., Brown Deer HS) led Ripon with 18 points on an efficient 7-for-10 shooting performance, including three triples. Sophomore Keenan Rahn (Omro, Wis., Omro HS) and senior Kolby Williams (New Orleans, La., Heights HS) each added 11 points, with Rahn connecting on all three of his 3-point attempts and Williams chipping in five rebounds and two assists. Junior Seth Bunders (Wauzeka, Wis., Wauzeka-Steuben HS) scored eight points and dished out three assists, while sophomore Michael Asman (Kimberly, Wis., Kimberly HS) added five points and four rebounds.
Ripon hit 12 shots from beyond the arc as a team, finishing the day at 38.7% from long range. Green Bay countered with a 52.7% mark from the field and a 48-35 rebounding advantage.
The loss drops Ripon to 0-2 on the season. The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday when they travel to face St. Norbert College. Tip off is set for 7 pm at the Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center in De Pere.
