WHITEWATER, Wisconsin – The Ripon track and field programs took to the road for the first time in the 2024-25 indoor season, facing stiff competition at the annual Squig Converse Invite + Multi hosted by UW-Whitewater inside the Williams Center.
In the men's competition on Friday night,
Rainier Villanueva put together one of the Red Hawks' best performances. His time of 4:22.68 in the mile earned him a second-place finish, while his teammate
Christian Kuwaye took fifth in 4:29.07. After a second-place finish in the 60-meter prelims,
Jacoby Cefalu followed with a standout finals performance. There, he came in third place with a time of 6.88 – one tenth of a second behind his current school record.
In field events,
Noah Hanson (13.60m) took 10th in the shot put.
In Saturday's women's competition, the mile was the Red Hawks' best event.
Jenny Cortes won the event in 5:12.32, while her teammate
Kiki Sherman placed sixth in 5:39.76. Ripon and UW-Whitewater were the only two schools to have two of the top six runners in the women's mile.
Ripon also had multiple top performances in the women's 800-meter run.
Jenny Cortes took seventh in 2:27.57, while
Madylyn Woyak crossed the finish line 10th (2:28.32). In the final running event of the day for the Red Hawks,
Joley Berger was the runner-up in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:39.43.
The men came in eighth as a team, while the women took 10th.
