Track and Field Looks Good on Day One of MWC Indoor Championships

MONMOUTH, Illinois – The Ripon track and field programs kicked off the 2025 Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday inside the Huff Athletic Center on the campus of Monmouth College.
 
Through one day, the Ripon men stand in first place while the women are third.
 
Jenny Cortes had Ripon's best run of the day – the junior broke her own mile school record in 5:02.48 to earn a runner-up finish there.
 
On the women's side, Ripon picked up points right away. Joley Berger won the league crown in the 5K, doing so in 18:16:00, over nine seconds ahead of the runner-up. Ripon's 1600 SMR team of Heleyna Weiss, Devin Ibarra, Madylyn Woyak and Minnie Hoffman placed second with a time of 4:19.74. Nicole Arnhold qualified for Saturday's 60-meter hurdle finals, taking eighth in the prelims with a 10.90 time.
 
On the men's side, two Red Hawks qualified for Saturday's 60-meter hurdle finals: Zak Ladage (8.79) and Dorian Phillips (8.92). Jacoby Cefalu won the 60-meter dash prelims in 6.93 to qualify for Saturday's finals. Matt Seeber earned All-MWC honors in the 5K, taking third in 15:08.51. In the final running event of the day, the 4x200 relay, Ripon's foursome of Finley Manning, Logan Vander Galien, Cefalu and Jacob Davies took second with a time of 1:29.64.
 
In field events, Ben Fisher won another MWC title in the high jump, defeating the field with a top mark of 1.95m. He also took second in the long jump (6.71m). Ripon also had an All-MWC performer in the men's pole vault, as Sean Rath (3.60m) took home second place.
 
Other top-eight performers include Dorian Phillips (pole vault), Kyan Lins (high jump), Nick Trzebiatowksi (high jump), Sidney Hoffa (long jump), Arnhold (long jump), Noah Hanson (shot put), Braedy Picard (shot put), men's 1600 SMR, Gabby Allard (5K), Kiki Sherman (mile), Rainier Villanueva (mile) and the women's 4x200 relay.
 
UP NEXT
Ripon finishes the MWC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday (March 1). Competition begins at 10:30 a.m.
