Offense Goes Cold in Home Opener

RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon softball program kicked off its 2025 home slate on Wednesday at Hopp Stadium, falling to Concordia University Wisconsin 12-1 and 10-0, both in five innings.
 
Ripon (2-12) fell behind early in game one as CUW (7-5) took a 2-0 lead after the first inning. The Falcons' opened the game up in the second, tallying seven more runs.
 
The Red Hawks answered in the bottom half of the second. With a runner on second, Alayna Sadowska tripled to center to score Maddie Hablewitz. However, the freshman was stranded on third to end the inning.
 
Concordia added three more runs in the fourth, winning the first game of the day in five innings.
 
Ripon mustered just two hits in game one, as Sadowska and Hablewitz recorded the only two base knocks. On the mound, Ashlynn Donahue took the loss. She went two innings, allowing 10 hits and nine runs (five earned).
 
In game two, the Falcons scored once in the first and four times in the second to pull in front 5-0. Ripon loaded the bases in the second and fourth innings – and put two runners on base in the fifth – but were unable to scratch a run across. Five more runs crossed home for the opposition in the fourth to seal the win.
 
Maddie Heisler tallied Ripon's only hit of game two, though Kayla Cruz, Jayden Markus and Nadiyah Huizar each walked twice. On the mound, Sadowska took the loss. She went 2+ innings, surrendering six hits and five earned runs.
 
NEXT UP: Ripon has a quick turnaround, hosting Marian for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. on Thursday (March 27).
