APPLETON, Wisconsin – The Ripon men's tennis program won the doubles point on Thursday at Lawrence, but the Vikings roared back in singles to post a 5-2 win over the Red Hawks in Midwest Conference action.
Ripon (6-13, 1-3 MWC) picked up an important doubles point to start the match.
Caleb Sippel and
Austin Stevens teamed up for a 6-3 win on court one, while Lawrence (8-13, 2-2 MWC) won 6-1 on court three. That left court two to decide the point, where
Corey Mooney and
Ty Rondestvedt were 6-3 winners to give Ripon a 1-0 lead.
Ripon only won one first set in singles, but continued to fight. However, the Vikings evened the match with a straight-set win on the top line and clinched the match win with straight-set wins on courts two, six and four.
Kyle Flook gave Ripon a point in singles, cruising to a 6-3, 6-4 win on court five, before the Vikings took court three in straight sets to close out the match.
