Cortes Breaks Own 800 Record as Ripon Awaits NCAA Berths

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – The Ripon track and field programs made one last push for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships this week, taking their talents to Augustana College for the NCAA Final Qualifier hosted by the Vikings.
 
A majority of the competition took place on Wednesday, while the Ripon men had three throwers compete on Thursday. The Red Hawks competed in the following events: men's pole vault, men's 100-meter dash, women's 400-meter run, men's 800-meter run, women's 800-meter run, men's 200-meter dash, men's 3000 steeplechase, women's 3000 steeplechase, men's shot put and men's discus.
 
Jenny Cortes had the highlight race for Ripon. The junior ran the 800 in 2:12.60 on Wednesday night, breaking her own school record set last season and vaulting herself into the top-40 nationally.
 
Bridget Finn and Jacoby Cefalu, who have comfortably qualified for next weekend's NCAA Championships, rested this week.
 
UP NEXT
Ripon awaits to see if it will be awarded any bids to the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Selections will be announced Friday, May 16 by 7 p.m. CT in a press release on NCAA.com.
