Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Red Hawks Fall to Loras, UW-Stevens Point in Neenah

NEENAH, Wis. -- The Ripon College men's tennis team competed in a Sunday doubleheader at the Neenah YMCA, falling 5-2 to Loras College before dropping a 7-0 decision to UW-Stevens Point.

Match One

Ripon opened the day with a strong showing in doubles play against Loras. The Red Hawks claimed two of the three doubles matches to take early momentum.

At No. 1 doubles, senior Caleb Sippel (Appleton, Wis., Appleton North HS) and sophomore Kyle Flook (Sheboygan, Wis., Sheboygan South HS) earned a 6-1 victory, setting the tone for the afternoon. Senior Austin Stevens (Mukwonago, Wis., Mukwonago HS) and sophomore Ryan Richter (Plainfield, Ill., Plainfield Central HS) followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles to secure the doubles point for Ripon. Loras picked up the No. 3 doubles match.

In singles, Sippel delivered an impressive performance at the top spot. After splitting the first two sets, he battled through a tightly contested 10-3 super tiebreak to earn a three-set victory at No. 1 singles.

Loras, however, responded by winning the remaining five singles matches. Stevens pushed his opponent to a third-set tiebreak at No. 2 singles before falling 10-8 in the super breaker. Junior Corey Mooney (Greenfield, Wis., Greenfield HS) also forced a third set at No. 3 singles, but the Duhawks secured the point to clinch the match.

Match Two

In the second matchup, Ripon faced a tough challenge against UW-Stevens Point.

The Pointers swept all three doubles matches to take control early. In singles play, Sippel, Stevens and Mooney competed at the top three spots, with Mooney forcing a second-set tiebreak at No. 3 singles, but UW-Stevens Point maintained the upper hand throughout the lineup.

Despite the results, the Red Hawks continue to gain valuable experience as the season progresses, competing against strong regional opponents in a busy stretch of nonconference play.

The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, Feb 28, when they travel to take on UW-Eau Claire at 12pm.
