APPLETON, Wis. -- Ripon swept a doubleheader at Lawrence University on Saturday, using a combination of dominant pitching and explosive offense to earn 6-1 and 8-0 victories.
In game one, the Red Hawks set the tone early and never looked back. Freshman Cyriana Reinwald (Horicon, Wis., Horicon HS) jumpstarted the offense in the first inning with an RBI double before later swiping home as part of an aggressive baserunning attack. Ripon added two more runs in the second, highlighted by an RBI double from freshman Carli Moldenhauer (Oconomowoc, Wis., Oconomowoc HS) and capitalized on a Lawrence error to extend the lead to 4-0.
The offense continued to produce in the middle innings, as freshman Callissa Keller (La Valle, Wis., Wonewoc-Center HS) delivered an RBI single in the fourth and sophomore Maddie Heisler (Appleton, Wis., Appleton East HS) added another in the fifth. That was more than enough support for freshman Peyton Vandeloo (Kaukauna, Wis., Freedom HS), who was dominant in the circle. Vandeloo allowed just two hits and one run while striking out 14 batters in a complete-game effort to improve to 11-4 on the season. Her performance tied the single game strikeout record for Ripon.
Ripon's lineup totaled 13 hits in the opener, with freshman Nora Lowney (Racine, Wis., Case HS) leading the way with three hits, while Keller, Heisler, and junior Nadiyah Huizar (Buena Park, Calif., Buena Park HS) each recorded multi-hit performances.
Game two followed a similar script, though this time the Red Hawks broke things open with one big inning. After Reinwald again got things started with an RBI double in the first, Ripon erupted for seven runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach.
The rally featured contributions throughout the lineup, including a two-run double from freshman Desirae Kallstrom (DeForest, Wis., DeForest HS), RBI singles from Lowney and Heisler, a two-run double by Huizar, and a two-run single from Keller. In total, Ripon racked up 13 hits for the second straight game.
Inside the circle, sophomore Alayna Sadowska (Oshkosh, Wis., Oshkosh West HS) kept Lawrence off the scoreboard, tossing five shutout innings while allowing seven hits and striking out one to earn the win. The defense backed her up with a clean performance, committing no errors in the shutout.
With the sweep, Ripon improved to 20-10 on the season, showcasing a balanced attack that combined timely hitting, speed on the bases, and strong pitching throughout the day.
