Red Hawks Open Season with 1-0 Shutout at Lakeland

PLYMOUTH, Wis. -- The Ripon College women's soccer team opened its 2026 season with a 1-0 shutout victory over Lakeland University Tuesday night at Taylor Field.

The Red Hawks controlled the game from the opening whistle, putting together several scoring opportunities while keeping Lakeland's offense quiet. Ripon finished the night with a 23-1 advantage in shots, including 17 shots on goal, while also earning six corner kicks compared to just one for the Muskies.

Despite the offensive pressure, neither team was able to find the back of the net during the opening 45 minutes. Ripon continued to apply pressure early in the second half, with several shots testing Lakeland's goalkeeper.

The Red Hawks finally broke through in the 68th minute when senior Alyssa Klementzos (Salem, Wis., Westosha Central HS) scored the game's lone goal at the 67:05 mark. Klementzos finished the game with six shots, all of which were on goal, as Ripon secured the 1-0 advantage.

From there, Ripon's defense held strong to preserve the shutout. Sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlan Adkins (Milwaukee, Wis., Brown Deer HS) played all 90 minutes and needed to make just one save, as Lakeland managed only one shot on goal throughout the contest.

Ripon's offensive attack was led by Klementzos, while sophomore Lizzy Schmitz (Sheboygan, Wis., Sheboygan Lutheran HS) added five shots, including three on goal. Senior Jadyn Johnson (Seymour, Wis., Seymour Community HS) also recorded three shots on goal.

With the victory, the Red Hawks begin the season 1-0-0.

Ripon will return to action Thursday, Sept 3, when it hosts Wisconsin Lutheran College at 7:30pm for its 2026 home opener.
