Red Hawks Season Ends In MWC Semi-Finals

The Ripon men's basketball team shot 48 percent (14-29) from the field during the second half of Friday's Midwest Conference semi-final game at St. Norbert, but that couldn't help them overcome a nine-point halftime deficit, as the Red Hawks season ended with a 75-65 loss to the Green Knights. St. Norbert converted 47 percent (25-53) of their shots in the game, including 50 percent (13-26) in the second period.

The Red Hawks (13-11) were fired up to start the game, getting out to an early 11-6 lead. The Green Knights would answer with 10 unanswered points to take a five point advantage and would lead by as many as 10 in the period. Ripon missed nine of its final 11 shots in the half, as they went into halftime trailing 29-20.

In the second half, the two teams went toe-to-toe for much of the period. Ripon cut St. Norbert's lead to three with 15 minutes remaining on a jumper by Taylor Koth. That was answered with a 22-10 run by the Green Knights, giving them a their largest lead of 17 points with five and a half minutes to play. The Red Hawks would battle back to cut the lead to seven on multiple occasions in the final minutes, but couldn't get over the hump. St. Norbert converted 10 of their final 12 free throws to seal the game.

Koth led the Red Haks with 24 points and seven rebounds. He finishes his Ripon career with 1,514 points, which is the sixth-highest total in school history, while also ranking second with 721 career rebounds. Kyle Loughrin added 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, which included three 3-pointers, while Brad Brooks added 10 points and seven boards.

St. Norbert saw four players finish in double-figures. Brandon Gries led the team with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Andy Fox and Andrew Schwoerer each posted 12 points. Jeremy Paprocki added 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting from 3-point range off the bench.
