MOLINE, Ill. - Ripon's baseball season ended Thursday afternoon with a 10-0 loss to #21 Wartburg College in the second day of the NCAA Division-III Central Regional playoff. That gave the Red Hawks their second loss in the double elimination tournament, as the Midwest Conference champion Red Hawks finish the season with a record of 24-16.
After a scoreless first inning, Wartburg (35-10) got on the board with a six-run second inning. Two runs scored on bases loaded walks, while two more crossed the plate on a two-run double. The other two runs in the inning scored on a sacrifice fly and a fielder's choice.
After the second inning, neither team had a runner reach base until the top of the fifth when Wartburg added one run on another sac fly. The Knights added two more runs in the eighth on a double steal and an RBI single. They would cap the scoring with a run in the ninth on an RBI double to left field.
The Red Hawks finished with six hits, with two coming from senior
Taylor Koth.
Marshall Zahn pitched admirably in relief, allowing two earned runs on five hits, while striking out three in 5.1 innings.
As a team, Ripon finished the season ranking sixth in school history in hits (430), ninth in runs (282), sixth in doubles (76), 10th in home runs (25), ninth in RBI (250 and tied for seventh in total bases (601).
