School Record Falls In Season Opening Meet

Results

RIPON, Wis. -
The Ripon women's swimming team opened their season Saturday with a 111-89 dual meet loss to Loras College.

The meet was highlighted by Ripon freshman Emma Goral, who set a new school record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.99, breaking the previous mark that was set by teammate Hannah Metz last season, by nearly one second. Goral's first-place finish was one of three individual events that Ripon won. Metz was victorious in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:06.93, while freshman Lateesha Hiser won the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.35. Metz also added a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle (57.81), which was 0.49 seconds shy of first place.

Winona Holmes-Robbins also contributed to the Red Hawks, placing second in the 100 backstroke (1:06.70) and third in the 200 IM (2:27.40). Freshman Gabby Horstmeier also finished in the top three in two events, placing second in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.09) and third in the 500 freestyle (5:54.14).

Ripon added a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Holmes-Robbins, Horstmeier, Goral and Hiser swam a time of 1:58.89, which was less than one second better than the Duhawks' team.

The Red Hawks will now take a couple weeks off from competition, before jumping back into the pool on November 15 at the Lawrence Triangular in Appleton, Wis.
