Ripon Sweeps Doubleheader From Lawrence By Combined Score of 17-3

Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score

APPLETON, Wis. -
Ripon's baseball team stayed hot Saturday afternoon at Lawrence University, winning for the 12th time in their last 14 games. The Red Hawks bats were alive in game one, as they defeated the Vikings 12-0 in seven innings, before winning the second by a score of 5-3.

Ripon's first runs of the day came in game one's second inning, as a groundout scored Mitchell Busch, who had led off the inning with a double. The Red Hawks (15-11, 8-2 MWC) added four runs the following inning on RBI by Nick Schmitt, Sam Waters, Nick Uhen and Bradley Knoblock. Two more runs crossed the plate in the fourth on a bases loaded walk and a wild pitch, while another pair scored in the fifth sacrifice fly by Tom Sawyer and an RBI single off the bat of Busch. Ripon capped the scoring with a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh on RBI singles from Knoblock and Jake Reinke.

The Red Hawks finished with 12 hits in the game, two apiece coming from Busch, Waters, Reinke and Dakotah Kirchenwitz. Uhen led the team with three RBI, while Michael Polcyn scored three times. Patrick Van Daalwyk (3-2) was once again dominant on the mound, tossing a four-hit complete game shutout, striking out six and walking just one. That extends Van Daalwyk's complete game streak to three, all of which resulted in Ripon victories, while allowing only two earned runs in his last 26 innings.

Ripon finished off the Vikings with a win in game two, despite Lawrence (5-19, 2-5 MWC) scoring first. After Lawrence took the first lead of the game with a run in the bottom of the first, Ripon tied things up on a Schmitt sac fly, scoring Polcyn. The Red Hawks took the lead in the sixth when two runs scored on a single by Schmitt and would add one more in both the seventh and eighth on RBI singles by Kirchenwitz and Schmitt, respectively. Those runs came in handy, as Lawrence plated two in the eighth, but the Vikings were set down in order in the bottom of the ninth.

Kirchenwitz led the Red Hawks with three hits, while Schmitt was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Polcyn also recorded two hits, while scoring three more runs. Tom Fish (2-3) pitched a complete game for Ripon, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out six, while walking one.

These two teams will battle each other again on Sunday at Francis Field in Ripon, with the first game of that doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
