Red Hawks Tune Up For MWC Tournament With Pair of Walk-Off Winners Against Marian

RIPON, Wis. - More than one month after Ripon's series against Marian began, it has been completed. Ripon took a pair of games from Marian University Tuesday afternoon, both ending with a walk-off hit by the Red Hawks. The two teams began the day by finishing a suspended game from April 2, which was won in the bottom of the 12th with a one-out solo home run by Dakotah Kirchenwitz, and was followed by a 5-4 Ripon victory in which Nick Uhen recorded a game-winning single.

The first game saw Ripon (23-13) record 11 hits, with two apiece coming from Nick Schmitt, Nate Siudak, Sam Waters and Stan Mrozinski. Aaron Langdon (3-0), pitching the final two innings without allowing a hit and striking out two.

The second game was just as close, with Marian (17-21) scoring first with a run in the top of the first. Ripon then took their first lead with two runs in the bottom of the first on an inside-the-park home run by Michael Polcyn, his league-leading 11th homer of the season. The Sabres grabbed the lead back with three runs in the fourth on an RBI single and a pair of RBI ground outs.

Tom Sawyer pulled Ripon within one with a single up the middle in the sixth, scoring Kirchenwitz from second and Polcyn drove in the game tying run with a sac fly in the eighth. That set the stage for Uhen's heroics in the ninth, as he laced a one-out down the right field line, scoring Waters from third.

Sawyer led the Red Hawks with three hits, while Kirchenwitz added two. Ethan Bemowski (2-0) picked up the win in relief, pitching two hitless innings in the game's final two frames.

Ripon will now get ready to host the MWC Tournament for the second consecutive season this weekend. The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, with the Red Hawks playing Cornell at Francis Field.
