RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon men's swim team extended their hospitality Friday afternoon for a home dual meet against Carroll University. The Red Hawks lost to Carroll 142-55, but saw three first-place finishes on the day.
Jonathan Newbery led the Red Hawks by winning both the 50 freestyle (22.09) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.99). Ripon's other first-place finish came in the 200 freestyle where
Andy Paloumpis swam a time of 1:55.75. Paloumpis also placed second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.34, while joining Newbery,
Nick Masterson, and
Alex Mehre on a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:53.39), just .13 seconds shy of the winning time.
David Peterkes gave Ripon a third-place finish in both the 1000 freestyle (12:14.02) and 500 freestyle (5:56.89), while Masterson took third in the 100 backstroke (1:01.27).
The Red Hawks will take a break from competition next weekend before getting back in the pool on January 31 at the Wisconsin Private College Championships, hosted by Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.Â
