DUBUQUE, Iowa - Ripon's men's swim team opened their 2017-18 season in style Saturday afternoon, defeating Loras College in a dual meet by a score of 109-103. The Red Hawks recorded five individual first-place finishes, while also winning a relay event.
"I'm really happy to win and do well at our first meet of the season," Ripon Head Coach
Ryan Goggans said. "A close competition like that is a full team effort and that was shown today by how many different people won events."
Jack Lutter picked up where he left off last year, winning a pair of events on Saturday. He finished first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.67, which was four seconds better than the second-place swimmer, while also taking first in the 100 butterfly (55.23), finishing three seconds better than the next-fastest time.
Ben Georgia had a great debut for the Red Hawks, winning the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:02.24.
Ethan Brown was also first in the 100 breaststroke (58.47), while
Alec Sutton won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:37.12.
In relay competition, Ripon's 200 freestyle team of Lutter, Sutton,
Nate Pakosz, and
Ethan Ripp finished first with a time of 1:31.16.
"Every swimmer did well today and we can take that and continue to improve the rest of the season," said Goggans.
The Red Hawks will be in action again on October 28 when at 1 p.m. when they'll host fellow Midwest Conference school Lawrence University for a dual meet.
