Ty Sabin Named To D3hoops.com All-Decade Team

Former Ripon College guard and three-time Midwest Conference Player of the Year Ty Sabin '17 has been selected to the D3hoops.com All-Decade Team. The voting considered anyone who played at the Division-III level at any point from the beginning of the 2009-10 season to the end of the 2019-20 season. There are five teams consisting of five players each, selected to balance front court and backcourt players, with Sabin landing a spot on the Third Team. Sabin is the only player from the MWC to earn a spot on one of the five teams, and is one of just three players from a Wisconsin-based school on the list.

A native of New Berlin, Wis., Sabin played for the Red Hawks from 2013-17, finishing his career as the most decorated player in program history. He began his career by winning the Central Region Rookie of the Year, which he followed up by earning three consecutive All-America honors, making him the only three-time All-American in program history. He added Central Region Player of the Year honors as a Senior.

Sabin finished his career as the school record-holder in points with 2,559, which ranks third in the MWC and 13th in NCAA D-III history. He also holds school records for points per game (26.1 ppg) and 3-pointers made (283), while ranking second all-time in free throw percentage (.859), fifth in 3-point percentage (.465), and eighth in assists (248).

The NCAA's active leader in scoring average across all divisions during his career, Sabin scored 50 or more points three times, including as a Senior in the MWC Semifinals, which included a last second 3-pointer to win the game. That would propel the Red Hawks to their first NCAA Tournament in 15 years, which saw Sabin drop 25 first half points against #7 Wash U. (Mo.), before finishing with 43 in the game.

Sabin was recognized nationally during his Ripon career in Sports Illustrated's 'Faces In The Crowd', while also appearing, along with his team, on ESPN's Sportscenter. He is currently playing professionally in Iceland after playing in Sweden last year where he led the league in scoring with 22 points per game.
