Nick Beaman '11 is the Midwest Conference's hit king with a school record 231 base knocks, which is 13 more than the next-highest total. Also the school record holder in career batting average (.414), Beaman ranks eighth in MWC history and is one of just three players to record a career average of .400 or better. A four-time First Team All-Conference and All-Region selection, Beaman was inducted into Ripon's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011, the first year he was eligible.
"Nick anchored our defense at third base for four years and I always had faith in his ability to get a hit every time he stepped to the plate," Ripon Head Baseball Coach
Eric Cruise said.
In addition to Beaman's school records, he also currently ranks second in program history for triples (9), runs batted in (169), and total bases (384), third in home runs (30), fifth in doubles (45), and sixth in runs scored (144).
In the four years Beaman played at the friendly confines of Francis Field, Ripon never had a losing record, compiling a record of 90-62 during that span. That included a pair of MWC Championships and NCAA Regional Tournament appearances during Beaman's final two years.
Beaman recorded a batting average less than .400 in just one season, coming as a freshman when he batted .385, to go along with nine doubles, three triples, seven home runs, and 36 RBI. He followed that up as a sophomore with a batting average of .430 with five doubles, three triples, eight homers, and 31 RBI.
As a junior, Beaman recorded career-highs in batting average (.439), doubles (17), home runs (10), total bases (110), and RBI (53), as he helped lead Ripon to their first MWC Championship in three years. He would lead them to back-to-back championships the following year, behind a .401 batting average, 14 doubles, five home runs, 94 total bases, and 49 RBI. That season also featured one of the most signature moments of Beaman's career.
"Nick hit the most dramatic home run in Ripon baseball history, which helped us score five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat Beloit in the MWC Tournament that season," Cruise recalled. "Nick's walk-off three-run homer capped off that victory and propelled us into the championship, which we won the next day."
Beaman currently works as a patrol deputy with the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office. He is also a member of the Winnebago County Special Weapons and Tactics Team. At Ripon College, Beaman majored in exercise science with a minor in leadership studies. He currently resides in his hometown of Oshkosh, Wis. with his wife Lacey Fenrich Beaman '12 and their daughter Murphie.
